Medvedev suspends controversial construction of highway through a forest.
Moscow, Aug 26 .- Russian President Dmitri Medvedev ordered today to suspend the controversial construction of a motorway through Jimki Forest, just outside Moscow, as demanded by the ruling party United Russia (RU), the opposition and environmentalists.
"People, including representatives of political parties, from the UK to the opposition, NGOs and experts believe that (the project) requires a revision," Medvedev pointed out in his videoblog (blog.kremlin.ru)., fallen earth chips,
Medvedev explained that it took this decision despite the fact that the government of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, approved construction of the highway in November 2009 and that the Supreme Court ratified it in March after rejecting the appeal of Russian environmentalists.
"Due to the large number of appeals to take this decision: I order the Government to suspend the carrying out, sto credits, of the legal provision on the construction of the highway and return to discuss this matter with experts and society," he said.
Medvedev stressed that "already discussed (about it), but after acquiring a greater impact, I see nothing strange to restart the debate."
"It is better to put points on the ies. I'm not going to predetermine the outcome, but given the concern aroused had to take this decision", indicated in his videoblog.
Earlier, UK joined the calls by environmentalists and Medvedev asked to revise the layout of the highway that should unite Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) said after Medvedev's decision that the damage done, tera gold, so far into the woods "is not irreparable," and that the trees cut "can still be recovered."
Greenpeace and movement in dnse of the forest for months had demanded the suspension of the project, which requires the felling of trees in an area of 150 hectares.

According to the project's master plan, the company will open a path of almost 100 feet wide through the forest to allow the appearance of businesses and shops along the future highway.
